The Claws won their first round MiLR post-season matchup over the Sarasota Savages in resounding fashion, with a 7-0 drubbing. J. J. Guemes struck out 10 in a phenomenal start, while the offense was on fire with power and situational hitting. 3 homers, a sac and a single accounted for all runs, and rookie Dick Sledge flexed picking up 4 RBIs on the day. The Claws will face the Congo Bongocats in the semifinals for the PCL next, as the visiting team.
Milwaukee is all but mathematically eliminated (there may be a very slight chance of picking up the wildcard, but it depends on a lot of other games' outcomes as the NLC is super strong this session), but that didn't stop them from dunking on the Cardinals 4-2. Swagger was terrific in his start and Abenduct shut the door. Sledge continued with his potent session results, picking up 2 RBIs on a homerun in the 3rd. The Brewers' final game is at Cleveland, whom they slaughtered in the preseason game. At the very least, they will be playing for a franchise-best .500 season winning percentage, and also looking to play spoiler in other teams' post-season hopes. So, don't fret about the math, just come on out and support your local 9.
We'll see ya there!
It's been a slow few weeks here in the upper midwest, with games gradually returning to normal after the Lemoning. Waukesha and Milwaukee both split their last two games, but along the way the Brewers eliminated Arizona from post season. Congrats for killing the Snek's dreams for S6.
Also, the White Claws are happy to annonuce two leadership moves. Gerald McCoy has been named new GM of Milwaukee affiliate, after doing a terrific job manning that helm for the past 3 sessions. McCoy succeeds Henryk Szydlowski, whose drinking was legendary and ultimately has lead him to permanent rehab - we all wish him well on the oustide of MLR! With McCoy moving up from WWC Captain, Waukesha fan favorite Dick Sledge has been named the Claws' new Captain, where he will put his broad shoulders to good use, striking fear into the hearts of the opposition.
Session 14 is the last of the MiLR regular season, and the Claws can still make it to the post season. This last session is against the loathesome Lemon Lake Lemons (who defeated WWC in the Styrofoam Cup in S6), so come on out and cheer on your favorite party drink. The Brewers look to establish a new winning streak as they take on division rival Pittsburgh Pirates, and they too are still post-season contenders, so if you aren't going to Waukesha, drop in at Miller Park and cheer on the local nine against the Piss Gang.
We'll see ya there!
Milwaukee and Waukesha are moving in lockstep so far this season. Both came away with decisive victories in S6.11 with wins at home vs the Giants and on the road against the Rookie Bat Dogs (NYY farm club). Session 12 looks to be a few more steps towards normalcy in the league again, following The Great Pause, as Milwaukee travels to Cincinnati, and the Claws host the Allegheny Alcoholics in a fall down drunk boozefest. We hope to see y'all there!
Milwaukee and Waukesha both fell in well-fought games during session 9 of season 6, which was drawn out a couple weeks longer than normal due to The Great Pause. Neither team was happy with the outcome, but JJ Guemes was happy with the improved scouting in both, and looks forward to seeing how the team rebounds when facing the Rookie Bat Dogs and the San Francisco Giants in session 10. We hope to see ya there!
Milwaukee and Waukesha both notched 6 - 2 victories in S6.9 with wins over Miami and Long Island, respectively. For the Brewers it was a game that saw all scoring save one courtesy of the long ball. Newly converted-from-pitcher DH Velvet Scarlatina flexed hard in his first start as a batter, and came away with PotG honors from a bases loaded walk and a 2-run homerun. Hudson Hildenbrandt picked up his first win on the season, and Ben Abenduct tossed a scoreless 6th.
For the White Claws, Hudson and Velvet flipped roles, with Scarlatina picking up the win, and Hudson taking home PotG honors in a 2HR day at the plate.
League parity super high this season, and both teams are still in the thick of the post-season race, so clear out those lungs and come cheer the team on, as Milwaukee travels to Pittsburgh for an important intra-division matchup, and the Claws host Miami's minor league Sarasota Savages. We'll see ya there!
The Brewers were held on for an impressive victory behind the stellar pitching of FHS and Ben Abenduct (both of whom picked up their first win/save of the season) over the Angels, in a tense but thrilling 2-1 victory. This brings them to 3-5 on the season at the halfway point. It seems to mostly have been bad luck in the losses thus far, so let's hope things are turning around!
Meanwhile Waukesha was locked in its own pitchers' battle up until the last inning, when the B's stung Ferret McGivins for 3 runs. The ending score was 0-3, which also brought the Claws to 3 - 5 on the season, but of note was the fact that this game was the last of his career for former Brewer and S5 multi-award-winner Guido. Good luck out in meatspace, friend!
Next games are both at home, when the Brewers host Miami and the Claws host Long Island. We'll see ya there!
The Brewers were blanked by the Expos, 0-3, but the Claws prevailed in a curbstomping 10-5 over the Jeffies (Dick Sledge pitched and gave up all 5 earnies, but also knocked in 7 on 3 homeruns, for PotG). Next games are hosting the Los Angeles Angels and at the Philadelphia B's. Come on out and we'll see ya there!
No two ways about it, the Jericho pitcher twirled a masterpiece in a 6-0 blanking of the Claws at home. So... pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get ready for the next game on the 12th, which is at Jefferson. Somewhere out east - just in time for Spring Break, so grab the kids and get a pet sitter, and hit the road to support your White Claws! We'll see ya there.
After what's seemed like endless close losses, the Brewers came out on top in dramatic style with a thrilling 4-3 win over division rival St. Louis Cardinals. The game was by and large a pitching battle, with Icna Comit holding his own solo style for the Cards while the Brew Crew sent Hudson Hildebrandt and Francis Swagger to the mound.
The game started with a literal bang by leadoff hitter and early RotY candidate Betardo Carrero launching a solo bomb in the first. As of the end of this game, Carrero sits atop the leaderboards in all of MLR with a .600 OBP. Along the way, two struggling Brewers finally picked up their first hits of the season, with a solo homer from Sandy Zipp in the 5th and a single by Ferret McGivins to lead off the 6th.
With a one-run deficit heading into the bottom of the fifth, the local 9 started with two straight singles, followed by two strikeouts. Down to their last out, Henryk Szydlowski stepped in, three sheets to the wind, and shanked a ball into the gap in left for a game-winning triple, and the second win of this early Season 6 for the Brewers. Betardo picked up PotG, and Swagger was named the winning pitcher.
This was a good solid team win all around, and everyone is probably still out celebrating, so look for the good guys at your favorite local watering hole. Next game is on the 11th at Montreal, so pack your bags and grab a translator to support the Brewers on the road. We'll see ya there!
There's something about facing the Phillies that brings out the epicness in games. In Season 4, the tem's first win under Manager JJ Guemes came after a back-and-forth affair against the Phillies. Season 5 saw a similar style game with a loss. Season 6 saw the same thrilling game, but unfortuantely PHI came out on top.
While 3 of the runs surrendered early in the game followed replaying a 2-out AB which changed the outcome from a FO to 3-run HR (ump error), there were a number of highlights to the game. Not the least of which was JJ's pinch-hit homerun to tie the game in the top of the 6th, after giving an awesome historical hype speech in the clubhouse. Extra innings were not successful, though. It started out well with a successful sac bunt to move the ghost runner from 2nd to third, but the Brew Crew were not able to bring him home. Phillie did their job in the bottom of the 7th for a 7-6 win.
And so with a whole two hours off, it's a light-speed flight home to host division rival Cardinals at the Keg. Come on out and show the local 9 some love. We'll see ya there!
After an early season slump, the White Claws appear to have regrouped, and picked up their second win in a row. This time in a speedy affair at the Merseberg Pulse Demons. This was a game of power, and Hudson Hildebrandt proved that yes indeed, pitchers can rake - he was granted PotG honors as a result. Next game is hosting the Jericho kangaroos or something like that. Come on up and cheer your Claws on towards win #3!
We'll just come right out and apologize to FHS for wasting a terrific 7-inning pitching job by him, in getting no-hit by Scrub Magooch of the Cubs, to lose 1-0. In contrast, Dick Sledge's CG start for the White Claws set the stage for a 3-1 walkoff win on a drunken double by Gerald McCoy, so that was a much-welcome first win of the season for the minor league team. We're still drunk, though, so come on down and cheer your favorite players on in session 6. Schedule has the details.
It was a hard-fought battle, but the Brewers dropped a torturous 7-4 game to the Reds, in session 3. We honestly don't remember session 2 for either team - kind of a drinking blackout moment. So time to dust off the yuck and take short trip to to the Cubs, for sesson 6.4 Claws are still looking for their first win of the season as well, and face the Merseberg Pulse Demons on the road. We'll see ya there!
Pitching was the name of the game for the defending S5 PCL Champion Waukesha White Claws, who opened Season 6 at home, hosting the newly-relocated Singapore Slingers (Houston's minor league affiliate). Brewers' corner infielder Henryk Szydlowski was named the Claws' manager this past offseason, and he looks to continue on with the S5 success. That'll have to wait for game two, however, as Singapore starter Rocco Rudnikov pitched masterfully, carrying a no-hitter against the Claws into the 4th, and ultimately prevailing with a CG 2-1 win. Waukesha's lone run came from a last-inning homer by pitcher Velvet Scarlatina, who was manning first base for the game.
The visiting Slingers weren't the only ones dominating on the mound. Brewers manager J. J. Guemes started for the Claws, and gave up a pair of solo shots in the second inning, before Henryk stepped in himself, to pitch the final 3 innings. In his pitching debut, Szydlowski picked up 5 strikeouts and recorded an astonishing 354 DBF! Might need to rethink his career as a hitter ;)
So, not the start they'd hoped for, but expectations and confidence are high with this year's Claws. Next game is at Saskatoon on the 10th. It's gonna be chilly, so pack your parkas, grab some grog, and hit the road to cheer on your White Claws as they take on the Saloons in the Great White North. We'll see ya there!
The Milwaukee Brewers started Season 6 on the road at the defending Paper Cup champion San Diego Padres. Pre-season polls had the Brew Crew sitting middle of the league, but nobody told them that. With a fresh outlook, and a refreshed roster, the good guys went out and showed the dadgang who their daddy is..
The offense was clicking well, and 7 of 9 starters reached base, with 5 ultimately scoring. San Diego never had a lead in the game. Pitching was solid, and held the Padres to 3 runs in the season opener. Highlights included recently converted pitcher Tex Hershey - now patrolling the outfield - going 2 for 3 with a homerun and 2 RBIs, which earned him PotG rights for the game, along with rookie Dick Sledge's 2-for-3 outing which also included a solo homerun (on a nice pitch, no less.)
Rotation anchor Ed Turner started the game, and newcomer Hudson Hildebrandt finished it up, adding "Ich bin dankbar, dass mein Trainer mir die Möglichkeit gibt, zu spielen."
A terrific way to start the season, and an historic one, as this is the first opener the Brewers have won, in their MLR history. J. J. Guemes congratulated everyone, and said "we can't wait to be 2-0." Next game sees the Cubs as visitors on January 9th, so grab your hunting rifles and get ready to much on some bearclaws. We'll see ya there! (FTC)
After routing the Guardians in "Spring" Training, the Milwaukee Brewers look towards Season 6, with great optimism about reaching several franchise goals. First and foremost would be a season record over .500 - S5 saw the best franchise winning percentage, but the team fell just short of .500
Beyond just a net winning season record, manager J. J. Guemes and the whole roster are looking to make an impact in the post-season for the first time ever.
Milwaukee loaded the lineup with rookies, sprinkled in a couple of the old core and ran out the free-agents for a pre-season scrimmage with the newly rebranded Cleveland Guardians. It was easily the most one-sided game of Spring Training.
Things got off to a bang for both sides. With Milwaukee hosting, the Guardians jumped on starter Velvet Scarlatina - an offseason free agent signing and long-time Cubs pitcher - for 3 runs, on 2-out traffic of a single, walk and two doubles. Velvet nailed it down on 3 strikeouts, though, and ultimately that would be the extend of the damage against him for the duration of his 4 IP debut with the Brew Crew.
Undoubtedly brimming with confidence, Cleveland took the field in the bottom half of the inning, putting their own rookie Bryant Gronkeiwicz on the mound. Good news for Gronk: he recorded his first two major league outs. Bad news for Gronk: they were both against the Brewers' first round pick Dick Sledge, in the same inning. Whaa? That's right - the local boys batted around, and then some. Thirteen Milwaukee Brewers came to the plate, and 9 crossed it. Collectively, the team batted for the cycle. Umps were day-drinking before the inning was over. It was - to put it mildly - a bloodshed. The Guardians did not even come close to threatening. Want the gory details? Just check out the game thread on Reddit.
Scarlatina's second and third innings both saw 2-out triples, who were then stranded on 3rd, holding their hats. Meanwhile, Milwaukee tacked on another pair of runs in the second, and one more both in the 4th and 5th innings. Cleveland managed to squeeze a run off reliever MLN FA pickup Hudson Hildebrandt in the 5th, but that was it for them. Ben Abenduct closed out the game, and the final damage was 13 - 4.
CF Sandy Zipp - an offseason trade from Oakland - picked up PotG awards, going 2-for-2 with a homerun and 4 RBIs. Other offensive highlights include rookie RF Betardo Carrero who went 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot (including a single with his first ever MLR PA) and 2 RBIs, Tex Hershey (who converted to LF from pitcher last year) going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, rookie C Gerald McCoy going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs (including a triple for his first MLR hit) and rookie 3B Theodore Charmsek clubbing a 2-run HR in his two ABs during the game. As for Sledge, while he had the unusual distinction of accounting for 2 outs in the same inning, he - like McCoy - also slapped a triple for his first MLR hit. This could possibly be a first in MLR, where two players both collected 3-baggers for their first hits.
The games that count start on December 27th, which means there's still time to drop hints for season tickets from Santa. This year is already shaping up to be a doozie! Milwaukee starts out on the road in sunny San Diego against the defending S5 Paper Cup champion Padres, so pack your sunscreen and grab one of those half-capacity plane tickets. We'll see ya there, and then back in the winter wonderland of Milwaukee soon enough!
